Owned by the Lixil Corporation, a building products company, in 2008, Crane Plumbing, Eljer and American Standard Americas, merged together to become American Standard Brands.
History
Before there was American Standard Bathtubs, there was Standard Sanitary Manufacturing which was founded in 1875. In 1899, it merged with several little plumbing manufacturers. Many plumbing product improvements such as built-in tubs, combination faucets and the one-piece toilet were pioneered by the Standard Sanitary Manufacturing Company. By 1929, the company was the largest bathroom fixture producer in the world.
Later that same year, the American Radiator and Standard Sanitary Corporation was formed with the merger of Standard Sanitary and the American Radiator Company. In 1967, the name was shortened and the company became known simply as American Standard.
